McInroy & Wood employs more than 50 members of staff. The majority are based in Haddington. We also have a presence in London, Harrogate and Aberdeenshire. 

 

The company is managed by a board of 12 executive directors and one non-executive director. Details of their roles, experience, qualifications and location are outlined in individual biographies below. An investment team of 14, including eight directors, share responsibility for the firm’s investment activity. Biographies of the investment team are also included below.

Tim Wood

Tim Wood
Chief Executive

Tim Wood joined McInroy & Wood in 2000. He graduated in mechanical engineering from Bristol University in 1996, and then worked as an analyst for the London Stock Exchange where he gained wide experience of primary and secondary securities markets in the UK and overseas. He became a CFA® charterholder in 2003, and has particular expertise in the smaller company sector.  He was appointed Managing Director in 2007 and Chief Executive in 2012.

Simon Fraser

Simon Fraser
Non-Executive Chairman

Simon Fraser joined McInroy & Wood in 2016 as a non-executive director with 35 years’ experience in the finance sector.  He was appointed Chairman in 2017.  Simon worked in asset management throughout his executive career at Fidelity Investments where he was the Chief Investment Officer.  Since retiring from Fidelity in 2008 he has served on a number of Boards, including Barclays plc where he was also a member of the remuneration and audit committees. Simon graduated with an MA from the University of St Andrews and subsequently obtained an MBA from Columbia University in New York.  He currently holds several non-executive Board positions with financial services companies and is Chairman of The Investor Forum and Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust plc.

Guido Bicocchi

Guido Bicocchi is an investment director based in Haddington.  He is a member of the investment team and is involved in the management of the portfolio funds and a number of clients. Guido joined McInroy & Wood with over 10 years’ experience in the financial services industry. He graduated in accounting and finance at Robert Gordon University and, after qualifying as a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, he worked in Aberdeen Asset Management’s private equity team where he was responsible at board level for a portfolio of small and medium sized companies.

David Cumming

David Cumming

David Cumming is an investment director based in London. David joined McInroy & Wood with more than 25 years’ experience as an investment manager. After graduating in Jurisprudence at Oxford in 1967, he had a short spell in industry and then trained as an investment analyst in London. He worked in Norway for several years taking overall responsibility for the international funds of the leading insurance company, Storebrand. He returned to London in the role of managing director of Storebrand’s international fund management company, and subsequently formed his own investment management firm. He has served as a director of investment and financial institutions in Europe and the USA.

Simon Cunningham

Simon Cunningham

Simon Cunningham is director of compliance and group risk. A physics graduate of Durham University, Simon qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in 1988 and subsequently joined Scott-Moncrieff, a leading independent accounting firm where he became a partner in 1996. He was responsible for the development of their risk management and internal audit services, in particular within financial services. In 2008 he joined AEGON one of the UK’s leading pensions and asset management companies as their chief internal auditor.

Wendy Ferguson

Wendy Ferguson

Wendy Ferguson is responsible for all areas of the firm’s operations as director of operations & IT. Wendy joined McInroy & Wood with 22 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Wendy studied accountancy at Aberdeen University and qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse in 1994. She was invited to join one of her clients, Scottish Widows, in 1998, where she held senior management roles across a range of functions, including the chief executive’s office, operations, finance and risk. Immediately prior to joining McInroy & Wood, Wendy was head of financial services at Grant Thornton, specialising in risk management and internal audit.

Antonia Fraser

Antonia Fraser

Antonia Fraser is director in charge of administration on behalf of clients and is based in Haddington.  She is devoted to providing clients and their agents with a personal service.  Outside her investment work she participates in local enterprise through her interest in the family furniture business.

John Marshall

John Marshall is an investment director based in London. He is a member of the investment management team and has responsibility for a number of clients. John joined McInroy & Wood with over 30 years’ experience in international financial services including extensive periods in Asia. He graduated in Commerce from Edinburgh University and subsequently obtained an MBA at Henley Business School. Prior to joining McInroy & Wood he was a managing director with ING.

Campbell McAulay

Campbell McAulay
Director of Finance & Unit Trust Operations

Campbell McAulay is finance director, head of unit trust operations and company secretary. After graduating in Law at Edinburgh University in 1990, Campbell qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Glasgow. Having gained experience in corporate advisory work, he spent eight years as director of finance and company secretary with George Inglis & Co., a privately owned printing and publishing group.

Francis Seymour

Francis Seymour

Francis Seymour is an investment director based in London. He is a member of the investment management team and also looks after clients. After qualifying as a solicitor Francis joined the investment department of the merchant bank, Guinness Mahon, in 1983. He was subsequently a founding director of Guinness Flight Global Asset Management in 1987. During his investment career he has managed UK, European and Global equity funds and, since 1993, has developed his competence in global emerging market equities.

David Shaw Stewart

David Shaw Stewart

David Shaw Stewart is an investment director. He chairs the stock selection and asset allocation meetings. David joined McInroy & Wood in 2001, having been an international investment manager since 1984. After graduating in History at Cambridge in 1977, he qualified as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Whinney in London before working in the finance department of Hawker Siddeley, a large engineering group. He returned to Scotland to join Stewart Ivory, the Edinburgh-based fund management company, where he became a director. Following a period as head of European equities there, he became head of UK equities and managed a number of major pension fund and institutional clients.

Charles White

Charles White

Charles White is an investment director based in London. He is a member of the investment management team and has responsibility for a number of clients. Prior to joining McInroy & Wood, Charles was managing director of a specialist investment management subsidiary of N M Rothschild. His career in financial services has also involved banking and mergers and acquisitions with ABN Amro and ING Barings. Charles graduated from Oxford in Theology and Greek.

Victor Wood

Victor Wood

Victor Wood has been continuously involved in the investment field since 1966 when he graduated at Oxford having read Greats. After training as an investment analyst in the US and London he joined an independent Edinburgh-based investment trust where his responsibilities included supervising funds in the USA, Canada, Japan and Australia. He served as a director of a venture capital investment company and also a member of the General Committee of the Association of Investment Trust Companies. Outside his investment management work, he has served as a member of the Board of Stewardship and Finance of the Church of Scotland, and on public and private bodies in the fields of education and health care. He is an occasional contributor to various professional journals of articles on investment and related topics.

Emily Ayles

Emily Ayles

Emily Ayles is an investment manager based in Haddington and a  CFA® charterholder.  She has a particular interest in global smaller companies.  She graduated from the University of St Andrews with a first in English before joining McInroy & Wood in 2013.  In 2016, Emily was named as one of the Top 40 Under 40 for the Private Asset Managers’ (PAM) Awards, an accolade designed to recognise the most promising young people in private client investment management.

Robin Irwin

Robin Irwin is an investment manager based in Harrogate.  He graduated in Agriculture from Newcastle University and spent 14 years working for Momentum Global Investment Management in London as one of the founding partners of the Alternatives Strategies team. He moved back to Yorkshire in 2012 and joined Maunby Investment Management, where he was responsible for looking after private clients and charities.

Will Lindsay

Will Lindsay is an investment manager and a CFA® charterholder. He is based in Haddington where he manages a number of client portfolios and has a specific interest in emerging markets. Will graduated in Economics from the University of Nottingham, and then spent a number of years working with technology in the financial sector in London, before joining a technology startup in Edinburgh.

Cameron MacKinnon

Cameron MacKinnon is an investment analyst based in Haddington.  He is a member of the investment team and is involved in the research and analysis of existing holdings and potential investment ideas. Cameron joined McInroy & Wood with 5 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Having graduated from the University of Edinburgh with first class honours in Business Studies and Accountancy, Cameron qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte before moving into their corporate finance advisory practice where he focused on mergers and acquisitions involving Scottish companies.

Hugo Swann is an investment manager based in London. Hugo graduated in Economics from Durham University after which he qualified as a chartered accountant with PwC. In 2006 he joined Credit Suisse where he was a Director in the European Equity department. At Credit Suisse he provided investment research and analysis of companies for institutional fund managers.

Liz Wild

Liz Wild is an investment manager based in Harrogate. Liz has returned to McInroy & Wood, previously spending four years with the firm at its Haddington office earlier in her career.  She graduated in Biology from Manchester University in 1998, and has also worked for J O Hambro Investment Management, Border Asset Management and latterly Maunby Investment Management where she looked after private clients and led stock selection of UK smaller companies. She was also responsible for managing specialist inheritance tax efficient portfolios.
